Kalamazoo, MI — On Sunday night, around fifty people came out for a punk show to raise funds for Chris “The Whammer” Wahmhoff’s legal fees. The event had a skate or die theme.
Marshall native Sweet, of Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands spoke about the issue. “Enbridge is expanding pipeline 6B. This is the same pipeline that burst in 2010 spilling a million gallons of tar sands into the Kalamazoo Riiver. The finalization of this project will result in 500,000 barrels of tar sands being pumped beneath our feet per day. This pipeline is like a ticking time bomb. It risks cataclysmic impacts on the communities living along. There is clear environmental racism with the Enbridge pipelines and the Marathon refinery.”
People of all ages worked on their sick moves in the half pipe. One person brought in donations in exchange for delicious icy drinks. The music was bad ass: we got to enjoy Dr. Dirt, Tim Tapper, Mattapoisette, Anybody but The Cops, and the Abortion Survivors. Thanks to the generous donations of everyone, $120 and 5 Euros were raised for Chris’ legal fees.
People at the show also spoke about their missing friend Jayme Bryant. Jayme is a fun-loving member of the Kalamazoo community and has been missing since June 29 after falling down the stairs. Please keep him in your thoughts and keep an eye out for him.
